Classic Red

The classic red lip is something I often struggle with. Having fuller lips than most, I always felt like wearing red lipstick (or any bright lipstick) wasn't an option for me. After watching many youtubers with similar lip shapes, I became more comfortable with the idea of wearing brighter colors. So I began to experiment more using lip liners to create more depth and definition. It's amazing how something as simple as darkening the corner of your lips can change the entire look. The look below was acheived by using Rubywoo lipstick and Nightmoth lipliner by MAC.

Seriously?! Right before the holidays?!

Well folks, I have yet again managed to set myself back in my healthy skin journey. So last week I decided I was going to revamp my daily skin routine in to something more consistent. Usually my products depend on how my felling that day. The type of product I use isn't what flucuates, the actual brand does. I always have a salicylic acid acne wash, a toner and an oil-free moisturizer. A glycolic acid or benzoyl peroxide spot treatment will get tossed in whenever breakouts occur. For my new routine I chose to use a salicylic wash by Glo Therapeutics, Viz-1000 by Peter Thomas Roth as a toner/serum (its extremely hydrating), and Ponds dry skin cream for my moisturizer. Now, I know you're giving me the side eye for choosing ponds, but just hear me out. Out of all 1374758 products I own I didn't have one moisturizer that doesn't contain SPF. Don't get me wrong SPF is an awesome thing to have in your routine, but I don't like to wear it when I don't plan on leaving the house and its horrible to sleep in. Being that I'm on break from school for a few weeks this is the perfect time to give my skin a break and to just let it breath. I began the new routine on Thursday. Fast forwarding to Monday morning, I looked in the mirror I was beyond horrified! There were tons of small bumps along my forehead and around my cheek/mouth area. I do have very mild acne prone skin, but I hadn't had a break out in a few weeks and never this many.  After reading the label of all of the products (I should've done this in the begining), I discovered that Ponds contains mineral oil and isopropyl palmitate as major ingredients. Those two are notorious for clogging pores and would explain the reason for the abundance of milia (white heads) dancing on my face. I didn't think to take pics until this evening and it's calmed down a lot since I did a bentonite clay masque this morning. Now I must spend the next couple of weeks getting my skin back to "normal." I have definitely learn my lesson.

Where have you been all my li i i i ife?!

Hello beauties! I know I don't have the most popular blog, but I still feel like I need to let you all know where I've been all year. Geesh! I don't even know where to start! I guess where I left off would be the ideal point. My estitician training turned out to be way more demanding than I thought it would be.  My instructors at Aveda were AMAZING! After graduating I felt very well equipped with the knowledge I needed to be a successful skin care professional. Since graduating I was accepted in to nursing school (totally unexpected) and began my first semester in August.

With all of the events that have taken place this year I have still found a way to keep up with my favorite hobby. Below is a product of my persistent practice. Hope you all enjoy!

For this look I used a NYX jumbo pencil in black bean as a base and 2am, velocity, mochi, bulletproof, tako, royal sugar and lumi all by Sugarpill. I can't remember the brand name of the lashes, I picked them up from my local beauty store.

A Quick Splash of Color

This is just a look I did while I was getting ready for school. It was inspired by a video I saw on NikkieTutorials YouTube channel. I didn't go as dark as she did because I was in a slight rush.
On the eyelids I used Mulch, Saddle and Bamboo all by MAC. Under the eye I used Love+ by Sugarpill. On my lips I have an unknown (the name rubbed off) MAC nude lipstick that I've toned down with Cork lip pencil. My foundation routine is pretty short. I just conceal my problem areas with Studio Finish Concealer and then use the Mineralize Skin Finish in Deep Dark all over. That's all folks! Short and sweet!

My 1st week at the Aveda Institute!!

Hi guys!! I am happy to report I have completed my first week at Aveda!! =D I absolutely love love love it! I am enrolled in the Esthiology program or "skin school" as I've heard my instructor say many times. It's an eighteen week program focusing on skin care. Classes are Tuesday through Saturday from 9-5:30. The days sound long but trust me once you're locked in a classroom full entertaining personalities, the time flies! It's so easy to get caught up in the curriculum so you don't notice the fact that you're in class on a Saturday and the bright side is you can run errands and shop on Monday with out dealing with crowds and traffic.

So you might be asking what this rebel did during the first week. Well, the first two days were orientation. We got to know more about Aveda as a brand and what they support. They gave us shirts, books, book bags and name tags. I was really looking forward to getting the student kit, but they save those for when you are ready to start working on the floor. Total disappointment for this little product junkie! On day three we began class. Let me just say that I really underestimated this program!!! I, like most people, thought that you just go to class, read some chapters and play with products and make up. Boy was I wrong!  The classes get pretty deep in information and a few hours of studying are required each night. The interactive activities during class are refreshing breaks from taking notes.

All in all I can tell the next 17 weeks are going to be awesome! I will come back periodically to let you know about my progress!

Overall
I'm happy with my purchase. The glitters and shadows are gorgeous, vivid colors. The only colors I would give my famous "side eye" to, would be "Pistol Pistol" and "Pink Cadillac". My issue with "Pistol Pistol" is that in the jar it is a very pretty shimmery gray, but when applied the shimmer and gray color separates leaving a matte off black shade. I haven't given up hope on it yet. I'll keep playing with it until I find something that works for me.

As for "Pink Cadillac", I love the glitter part of it. It's like a transparent purple glitter that you can layer over a pretty pink or purple eyeshadow. But as a whole, when I see this glitter, I see purple glitter mixed with powdered sugar. That's the best way I can describe it. =/ All hope isn't lost for this one either...

Introduction

     Like most little girls, playing in my mom's bathroom was always on my daily to-do list. Waiting on her to leave for work or get hooked on a good Life Time movie, I would think about which products I wanted to get my hands on first. The fact that she was a Mary Kay consultant made it even better! Loads of products for me to try on and test out. I read the ingredients on cleansers and creams and swatched lipsticks and eyeshadows. If I was lucky enough I would get the chance to try stuff on neighborhood friends. As I got older I was taught how to properly apply makeup and was allowed to wear it to school. Eyeliner and colored gloss were my staples. Over the years my fascination has increased and here I am to share what I have learned with you!
